Lime Slurry Transfer - Challenge
One of the world’s largest producers of lime and gypsum needed to transfer lime slurries from a thickener to a heat exchanger at a controlled flow rate of 110 gpm and a pressure of 116 psi.
The sludge contained up to 20% solids with particles reaching 40 mm.
The quarry’s existing centrifugal pump delivered an excessively high flow rate for the heat exchanger and required a 174 hp motor, resulting in high energy consumption, frequent maintenance, and significant noise
PCM Solution - PCM EcoMoineau™ PCP
PCM recommended the EcoMoineau™ 120M12S Progressive Cavity Pump, leveraging its extended operating range. Equipped with a 24.8 hp motor, the PCP:
- Consumes 7 times less energy than the previous centrifugal pump
- Provides accurate and reliable flow regulation
- Requires less maintenance and reduces operating costs
- Eliminates the need for complex overflow control systems (removal of excess piping and a large-capacity tank)
- Offers significant noise reduction, improving working conditions on site
