Typical applications for dry pet food
The manufacture of dry pet food begins with the mixing of solid and liquid ingredients. Dosing pumps ensure the precise incorporation of vitamins, minerals and liquid flavors into flour and cereal mixtures.
Subsequently, the extrusion process involves the use of progressive cavity pumps and peristaltic pumps.
Progressive cavity pumps are used to convey viscous meat and grain-based pastes, while peristaltic pumps can also handle the transfer of liquid oils and coatings applied at the end of the line to improve product appeal.

Wet PetFood
Wet food for animals has special transfer constraints. Raw materials such as minced meat, sauces and broths should be handled with care to preserve their texture and pieces.
The manufacture of so-called "wet" products (75 to 78% humidity) requires different types of liquid or viscous raw materials (fresh and/or frozen meats, mineral supplements, phosphoric acid, texturing agents, vitamins and cereals). PCM pumps provide continuous transfer, which avoids shear and product deterioration, and ensures minimal reduction in product loss.

Animal feed for livestock often includes liquid rations, such as pork soup: a mixture of dry matter and liquids. PCM pumps make it easy to pump these viscous mixtures in a continuous flow.
