Lithium Battery Pumping Solutions

As global demand for electric vehicles surges, lithium consumption continues to rise—driven by the need for efficient, long-lasting batteries. In response, PCM has engineered specialized pump solutions for lithium battery manufacturing. These pumps are designed to handle sensitive and viscous fluids with precision, preserving the integrity of each component throughout the process.

PCM progressing cavity pumps deliver low-shear, pulsation-free flow—ideal for dosing, coating, and transferring lithium-based materials. Their ability to maintain product quality while ensuring flow consistency makes them a trusted solution in battery production environments where purity and performance are critical.

Challenges in Lithium Battery Process

Cost-efficient equipment

In industrial operations, production downtime leads to significant cost increases. PCM provides robust, low-maintenance pumps engineered for high efficiency and easy servicing. These features help manufacturers reduce operational expenditures (OPEX) while maximizing uptime.

Viscous and fragile fluids transfer

Lithium-ion batteries involve the handling of electrodes (cathode/anode), separators, and electrolytes—each chemically sensitive. PCM Moineau™ technology ensures these materials are transferred without degradation. The rotor-stator mechanism preserves fluid integrity by maintaining a constant geometry and volume during transfer, guaranteeing accurate flow rates and pressure while preventing shear damage.

Cross-contamination risks

Maintaining product purity is vital—any contamination can compromise battery performance. PCM pumps are designed without metal-to-metal contact, grease, or oil within the fluid zone. This eliminates cross-contamination risks when handling corrosive, abrasive, or shear-sensitive materials.

Batteries materials mixing

Raw materials (lithium) are first stored and then transferred into mixing tanks. Cathode or anode pastes are blended with solvents like NMP and binders such as carbon black to enhance conductivity and coating efficiency. These preparations are then stored before being integrated into the battery assembly line.

Transfer to the coating unit

Mixed electrode pastes are moved to a buffer tank before being delivered to the coating unit, where they are applied evenly onto metal foils (e.g., copper or aluminum). This stage demands precise, pulse-free dosing to maintain coating quality.

Lithium slurries management

During battery production, lithium slurries—highly viscous and often abrasive—must be transported to treatment or recovery systems.

FAQ - Lithium Battery Pumping Solutions

Which pump should I use for high viscous and fragile fluids?

Depending on your application, you should use the technology Moineau ™. As the rotor turns inside the stator, it ensures a non-shearing process and respect of the product. For battery lithium pump, we developed a specific pump: PCM Ecomoineau™ LX.

Which pump characteristic should I use through my application?

You can contact our experts directly on our website. They will help you choose the best model according to your needs: lithium solution/black carbon transfer or NMP solvents transfer or lithium coating dosing.
