Optimize your fruit and vegetable production process

Global production of fresh and processed fruits and vegetables has doubled in the last thirty years. The applications are multiple: from the transfer of raw harvests (transfer of bunches of grapes) to the manufacture of processed products such as tomato sauce, compotes and fruit and vegetable purees.

PCM pumps make it possible to best adapt to the requirements of these markets. Resistant to abrasion and corrosion, they also ensure a high level of hygiene. With different construction materials, they make it possible to adapt to the hygiene constraints of different industries (food contact and hygienic design).

PCM pumps have a low overall lifecycle cost. Easy to install and maintain, robust and versatile, they are suitable for pumping liquid or viscous products.

PCM Moineau™ pumps preserve the structure, texture and nutritional values of fruits and vegetables. Thanks to the design of the eccentric rotor pump, and the in-house manufacture of the PCM rotors and stators, the control of tightening makes it possible to preserve the texture of fragile fluids, by limiting internal leaks and therefore shear, and ensures that the pieces are respected.

Challenges in fruit and vegetable production process

Handling abrasive, acidic or fragile products

The production of fruit and vegetables is diverse: the characteristics of the products pumped and their shape differ from one application to another. Fruit purees, tomato concentrates, peach wedges in syrup or pea fibers have a wide variety of characteristics: high viscosity, acidity, presence of pieces or abrasiveness.

Improving productivity and Life Cycle Cost

Breakdowns, product losses or unplanned maintenance operations have a direct impact on profitability, especially in the context of seasonal production where the processing site only works for a few months of the year depending on the duration of the harvest.

Ensuring the quality of finished products

The transfer of fruits and vegetables requires the maintenance of their texture and properties during the manufacturing process. It is necessary for the pumps to avoid shearing and crushing of the pieces. In addition, a high level of hygiene is required for certain sensitive and fragile products.

Typical applications for transfer and processing

Transfer of fruits and vegetables for processing

Application examples: transfer of fruit puree/jams, tomato paste, grape bunches, marzipan, pea fibre.

Raw or pre-treated products are transported to processing sites, where PCM Moineau ™ progressive cavity pumps transfer these products without altering or degrading them. They pump fragile, fibrous or abrasive products, while maintaining a stable and continuous flow.

Fruit and vegetable puree transfer

Application examples:  transfer of tomato pulp or transfer of chestnut puree.

The PCM HyCare™ pumps respect the texture of the tomato pieces. They transfer the fresh tomato pulp with pieces just after heat treatment. The Moineau™ technology, thanks to its capsulism (non-deformable cell with a constant displacement), respects tomato pieces, weakened by pasteurization, during the transfer of the pulp.

The PCM HyCare™ pump can be used to empty IBCs (Intermediate Bulk Containers) containing fruit compotes, jams, chestnut creams and fibre-enriched purees. It allows you to maintain a certain pressure while benefiting from a hygienic design.

Typical applications for fruits and vegetables

Transfer of cooked vegetables

The PCM Hyfeed™ pumps with their hygienic design and innovative shaft line without sheathed joints transfer frozen products made from plain or cooked vegetables. They also allow the transfer of vegetable peels and scraps. The capsulism of the PCM Moineau™ pump ensures perfect respect for the cooked pieces of vegetables.

Injection and dosing in jams or purees

Application examples: Adding liquid sugar, pectin, lemon juice, liquid dyes, or probiotics to existing fruit and vegetable blends.

These different products require precise, regular and continuous dosing. Thanks to their accuracy (1%), Lagoa dosing pumps are able to perform this function.
