What Is Moineau™ Progressing Cavity Pump Technology?
By René Moineau the co-founder of PCM
Since the invention of progressive cavity technology by René Moineau, co-founder of PCM, we have incorporated it into our pump ranges to ensure superior performance. Our pumps can operate at higher pressures and efficiently handle viscous, fragile, or high solid-content fluids—outperforming other positive displacement pumps.
They provide extremely low shear operation and are completely pulsation-free, making them ideal for any application that requires a steady, consistent flow, regardless of the product’s viscosity or pressure.
The pcp technology advantages
Named after René Moineau, the inventor of the progressing cavity pump, our pumps feature innovative technology. Notable characteristics of our PCPs include:
- Ability to handle both fragile and viscous products
- Flow rate proportional to running speed
- High suction capacity with self-priming capability
- Constant, non-pulsating flow
- Reversible operation
- Easy maintenance
- Preservation of product texture and integrity
- Capability to handle fluids containing particles
- Designed to resist abrasion and corrosion
Each PCM Moineau™ pump is modular and can be adapted to meet any requirement.
Progressing cavity pump principle
A Moineau™ progressing cavity pump consists of a helical rotor, which turns inside a helical stator. The stainless-steel rotor is machined to a high degree of precision, and the stator is moulded in a resilient elastomer.
This means that when the rotor is inserted into the stator, a double chain of honeycombed-shaped watertight cavities is created. When the rotor turns inside the stator, the honeycomb moves spirally along the axis of the pump, never changing shape or volume. This allows the product to be transferred from the pump intake to the pump discharge, without any degradation.
