Specialists in Desalination Pumps for Water Treatment

Desalination consists in turning seawater into potable water. The process removes the salt and impurities from seawater. PCM offers a comprehensive range of desalination pumps engineered for water transfer, chemical dosing, and sludge removal, combining efficiency, durability, and environmental responsibility.

Challenges in Desalination

Abrasion resistance

Seawater contains numerous abrasive particles—such as sand, clay, seaweed, and organic debris. Pumps used in desalination must resist continuous wear caused by these solids. As the rotor and stator are in direct contact with the pumped medium, they must be manufactured from materials that can withstand high abrasion while maintaining operational reliability.

High pressure pump

Desalination, especially via reverse osmosis, requires pumping systems capable of handling high pressures. During reverse osmosis, filtered seawater is pushed through semi-permeable membranes to separate salt and other dissolved solids. Efficient desalination requires pumps that provide both high pressure and high flow rates without compromising longevity.

OPEX and CAPEX Optimization

Desalination is energy-intensive. Pumps must be engineered for high efficiency and low energy consumption to reduce the overall operational costs. PCM pumps are eco-designed to lower energy usage while ensuring reliable, long-term performance in demanding desalination environments.

Pumps Desalination

Transfer the filtered seawater to the reverse osmosis membranes

Following pre-filtration, seawater must be transported to various treatment stages, including the reverse osmosis unit. This requires pumps capable of handling medium to highly abrasive liquids while maintaining a consistent flow rate and pressure. At this stage, high-pressure pumps are used to push filtered seawater through membranes to remove salt, microorganisms, and other impurities. Once desalinated, the water is transferred at low pressure for further treatment or distribution.

Chemical Dosing and Transfer

After solid removal, treated seawater undergoes chemical dosing to eliminate pathogens and stabilize water quality. Common chemicals used include chlorine, lime milk, activated carbon, and hydrogen peroxide. Accurate and repeatable dosing is critical for water safety and regulatory compliance.
