Enhance your Operations with Multiphase Booster

Multiphase booster systems provide incremental oil production from mature fields, by reducing wellhead pressure. One of the most interesting challenges is boosting the fluid from the wellhead to the processing facilities. Our pumps are commonly used to pump liquids, often with suspended solids, and rarely relatively small amounts of gas. In the case of multiphase booster though, the amounts of gas become the leading factor, and this brings a few additional challenges.

PCM provides cost effective and reliable pumping solutions to pump the multiphase mixture instead of having to install separation facilities at each wellhead cluster. While reducing capital cost, PCM technology lowers the backpressure on wells and improves the global footprint of the equipment. Our pumps are particularly effective in moving mixtures of crude oil, gas, water, and even solids like sand, without requiring early-phase separation.

Challenges in Multiphase Booster

Global footprint of the equipment

Offshore platforms or remote onshore locations raise space and installation constraints. Traditional installations have a large physical footprint. In contrast, multiphase boosters are compact and modular. They can easily be retrofitted into existing infrastructure without major modifications. Their mechanical design also reduces energy consumption and environmental footprint, compared to more complex alternatives. PCM has experience to choose the configuration minimizing maintenance and suiting with site constraints

Handle crude oil with a range of viscosities, free gas and sand

PCM progressing cavity pumps maintain consistent flow, when associated to seasonal temperature variation, making them ideal for fields where the quality of crude can vary over temperature. By maintaining a continuous, low-pulsation flow, these pumps ensure steady transport of the multiphase mixture. PCM PCP can handle very high sand cut while abrasion with solids is a serious showstopper for most Multiphase pumping technologies.  PCP keeps very stable flow rate performance whatever the water cut, whatever the viscosity variations the fluid may face at surface.

Typical applications in multiphase booster

Wellhead Booster Pump

At the wellhead, it is necessary to maintain sufficient flow rates, even when the reservoir pressure drops. A PCM progressing cavity pump as wellhead booster efficiently lowers the backpressure at the well. Thus, it extends the economic life of a field, making it essential to enhance oil recovery strategies, even under variable fields conditions.

Crude Oil Export Pump

In many oilfield operations, the crude oil must be transported from remote well sites to central gathering facilities or export terminals. PCM progressing cavity pumps offer efficient and reliable solutions for long-distance transfer. They eliminate the need for preliminary separation or heating processes, thanks to their ability to handle a wide range of viscosities and multiphase mixtures. PCM progressing cavity pumps transfer fluids with a low-pulsation, steady flow. It ensures minimal pressure drops, thus reducing energy consumption and operational costs.

PCM_Slugger_Pump

PCM Slugger hydraulically regulated PCP (HRPCP)

The patented PCM Slugger is a hydraulically controlled progressing cavity pump (HRPCP) designed to offer a simple upgrade solution for multiphase pumping operations.

With a conventional PCP operating in multiphase flow, pressure tends to accumulate on the pump’s discharge side, reducing its service life. The PCM Slugger balances pressure throughout the pump, distributing it more evenly along the stator. This minimizes internal stress, enhances reliability, and extends operating life. HRPCP technology improves the standard PCP design by integrating hydraulic regulators along the pump, built directly into the rotor.

The PCM Slugger is an exceptionally adaptable option for extending the lifespan of PCPs across a broad range of pumping environments.

FAQ - Multiphase booster

Why use a multiphase boosting system ?

Using a multiphase boosting system provides simple and cost-effective surface facilities from well to CPF. Multiphase boosting pump increases the well production by reducing the well head pressure and prolongs rig less production of natural flowing wells and gas lifted well. Multiphase boosting pump is more performing and tolerant than gas compressors when gas is not clean and dry enough to be sent to the gathering station.
